Bryan Lowes

Riding since: 1963
Teaching motorcycling since 1974

Few instructors can claim the long history and list of achievements in the rider training industry Bryan Lowes can. He has 40 years of motorcycle and traffic safety research and experience in program development and delivery. His legal work as a Human Factors expert totally stands on that strong foundation. His work with many other organizations recognized the accumulated expertise and experience he brought to the table, i.e. CSC, CSA, MSF, ICBC, MVB, Ministry of Health, OSMV, BC Coroners Services, etc.

Bryan has been a member, director or chair of over 15 different safety industry associations and committees over the years. He has been asked to participate and present at a great number of industry conferences throughout North America. Bryan has authored and co-authored many publications and manuals for drivers and training industry instructors, including ICBC’s “Gearing Up” student workbook, in use for 15 years across BC.

Over the years, Bryan and his colleagues developed a remarkable new training methodology (in-traffic training, for example) and set new standards. They influenced the evolution of rider licensing standards across Canada. For that reason, he was hired as a consultant by ICBC to help develop the Road Sense for Riders manuals and review the Road Sense for Drivers manuals.
